“Top Ten: Taiwan” is a carefully curated list of 10 picture books, videos, activity suggestions, and discussion questions to cover the subjects of geography, history, art, music, science, language arts, food, and more!
These studies have been used in homeschools, homeschool coops, and classrooms. They work especially well for those who use Unit Studies or educate according to the Charlotte Mason method.
I developed this study with Charlotte Mason’s philosophy in mind, specifically that of learning directly from living books. A living book is a well-written book by a person who has passion for and experience in the subject matter. When researching, I look for books that are written by people from that culture or with a personal knowledge of the culture.
Videos are suggested under the “Dive Deeper” section to provide more details about one or more aspects of the book. Click on the link directly within the PDF on your computer or tablet for the recommended videos and/or articles.
Do I have to buy and read all of the books?
You do not have to buy or even read all of the books. See which are available at your local library or through an interlibrary loan. They may be available to read online at archive.org. Many of the books in this study can be found as Youtube read-alouds.
I encourage you to omit any books, videos, and activities that do not resonate with you or your students. You may also choose to read the books in any order. Older students may make further connections by reading the chapter books..
Do I have to print the whole country study?
You do not have to print the whole thing! In fact, you may only choose to print the worksheets as you need them. This country study is designed for you and your students to learn through reading the books and watching the videos. Suggested activities might add to the learning, depending on your students.
