Discover Namibia and Botswana (1 week)

$5.00

Learn about animals of the savanna and the science of conservation efforts in Namibia and Botswana through living books. Do cheetahs actually bother farmers? How do elephants communicate with their feet? Where do the zebras disappear to during the dry season? Are there diamonds in the desert?

Be fascinated by the world’s largest inland delta, sand dunes that are among the world’s highest, and the Kalahari desert (is it a desert?) The recommended books span a wide range of ages, from preschool through high school. This cultural study includes fun and informational fact pages that cover the histories and ecologies of Namibia and Botswana.

The living science books will inspire the young naturalist in areas of observation and animal research. Students will have the opportunity to synthesize information as they work through the science notebooking pages, map drawing, and passport insert. Bonus materials include: Copywork, Timeline cards, Chapter book list, and Flag information.

This 23-page study presents organized book reviews, links, and activity pages. This is not a physical product; you will receive two digital PDF files: “Discover Namibia and Botswana: A Book A Day,” and a special passport booklet. The books are not included; however, the books that are free to read at archive.org are noted throughout the study.

Learn about the geography of different countries through literature. Written in an open-and-go format, this study uses multiple living picture books to learn the animals of Namibia and Botswana. Many of the books are written by own voices or people with strong ties to the country.

This geography curriculum is written as a non-biased, non-religious study. This gives families the flexibility to view it through the lens of their own religious worldviews as they see fit.

Many of the activities follow a Charlotte Mason approach. These activities include: living stories, copywork, map drawing, and science notebooking.

Whether you read about Namibia or Botswana in the news or know someone from the country, my hope is that this study provides a cultural immersion for your students that they will always remember.
