Discover Venezuela: A Book A Day (1 week study)

$5.00

Have you heard of the legend behind the highest waterfall in the world, or seen videos of the seemingly “never-ending lightning storm?” Discover Venezuela, a place of immense beauty, through this one-week study. Best for ages 5 to 11, the books are suitable for preschool ages and the chapter book list is perfect for middle school and up. Enjoy five days of living picture books, each followed by a video or two, and a fun activity in the subject areas of art, math, animal science, geography, authentic recipe, and composer study. Mapwork, timeline cards, and chapter books are always included.

This 23-page study presents organized book reviews, links, worksheets, and activity instructions. This is not a physical product; you will receive three digital PDF files to download. The three files consist of: “Discover Venezuela: A Book A Day,” a special passport booklet, and “Simón Bolívar Day.” The books are not included; however, the books that are free to read at archive.org are noted throughout the study.

The separate bonus study is about revolutionary leader, Simón Bolívar! Did you know that Venezuela’s official name is Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela? Did you know their currency is the Venezuelan bolívar? The country of Bolivia is also named for Simón Bolívar! It’s time to learn about this Venezuelan hero. I’ve recommended a book for younger readers and a chapter book for late elementary and middle school ages. Enjoy some flag and map work of South America, and make a Venezuelan Tizana inspired by the flag.

Learn about the geography of different countries through literature. Written in an open-and-go format, this study uses multiple living picture books to learn about Venezuela. Many of the books are written by own voices or people with strong ties to the country.

The books and activities are interdisciplinary, covering multiple subjects during the course of the study. In a manner similar to unit studies, different subjects are covered that all relate to Venezuela.

This geography curriculum is written as a non-biased, non-religious study. This gives families the flexibility to view it through the lens of their own religious worldviews as they see fit. Religions and religious beliefs of people in the country may be discussed.

Many of the activities follow a Charlotte Mason approach. These activities include: living stories, copywork, map drawing, and composer study.

Whether you read about Venezuela in the news or know someone from the country, my hope is that this study provides a cultural immersion for your students that they will always remember.
