Discover Cameroon: A Book A Day (7 day study)

$7.00

Listen to these fantastic nicknames: “Africa in Miniature” and “The Hinge of Africa!”

Within the country of Cameroon are all the climates found in Africa, volcanoes that formed the highest peak in west and central Africa, and one of the wettest spots on earth. Learn about the biomes and the history, including Cameroon during the Atlantic slave trade.

Discover Cameroon through 8 living books that are either own voices or by people with strong ties to Cameroon. 7 of the books can be freely accessed online!

Here’s the daily rhythm:

  • read a short picture book
  • watch a video
  • complete an activity

There are also daily short paragraphs of background information to provide deeper understanding of the picture book. This cultural unit study is perfect for but not limited to ages 5-11. I started studying countries this way with a 3-year old and now my oldest ones are almost-11. With every study, my kids ask for more books, videos and activities!

This 7-day, 27-page study includes:

  • water filtration science experiment
  • map drawing
  • recipe of the national dish, Ndolé
  • flag information
  • spotlight on environmentalist Farmer Tantoh
  • history of Cameroon
  • original map created by me
  • language arts exercise
  • game suggestion
  • historical use of the catenary arch
  • religions of Cameroon
  • passport book cover with Cameroon page

You will receive two digital PDF downloads. This is not a physical product. The two files consist of: “Discover Cameroon: A Book A Day” and a special passport booklet.

Learn about the geography of different countries through literature. Written in an open-and-go format, this study uses multiple living picture books to learn about Cameroon. Most of the books are written by own voices or people with strong ties to the country.

The books and activities are interdisciplinary, covering multiple subjects during the course of the study. Similar to unit studies, different subjects are covered that all relate to Cameroon.

This geography curriculum is written as a non-religious, secular study. This gives families the flexibility to view it through the lens of their own religious worldviews as they see fit. Religions and religious beliefs of people in the country are discussed.

Many of the activities follow a Charlotte Mason approach. These activities include: copywork, map drawing and science notebooking.

Whether you are traveling to Cameroon, know someone from the country, or are simply an adventurous explorer, my hope is that this study provides a cultural immersion for your students that they will always remember.
