Discover Belgium: A Book A Day (1 week study)

$5.00

Discover Belgium: A Book A Day, is a 1-week study for ages 5-11 designed to immerse your children in a beautiful culture through music, art, science, geography, and food. This is an interdisciplinary study designed to follow your child’s natural curiosity, combining subjects to breathe fun and freedom into your day.

Using the Charlotte Mason concept of learning directly from living books, each day presents one or two books with supporting information, relevant video(s), and one activity. Types of books include folklore, biography, true World War II stories for kids, and art study.

The topics and book-related activities are: geography, people groups, and mapwork; animal study and drawing; a little history, meaning of the flag and fun facts about the major cities; a major landmark and creating a STEM model of it; art study and project; composer study with listening playlist; and a Belgian recipe to enjoy together in the kitchen.

Also included is a Chapter Book list of four excellent books that may be read aloud or given as free reading for older children. Lastly, Timeline Cards make it easy to place historical figures on your school timeline or Book of Centuries.

This 21-page study presents organized book reviews, links, worksheets, and activity instructions. This is not a physical product; you will receive two digital PDF files: “Discover Belgium: A Book A Day,” and a special passport booklet. The books are not included; however, the books that are free to read at archive.org are noted throughout the study.

Learn about the geography of different countries through literature. Written in an open-and-go format, this study uses multiple living picture books to learn about Belgium. Many of the books are written by own voices or people with strong ties to the country.

The books and activities are interdisciplinary, covering multiple subjects during the course of the study. In a manner similar to unit studies, different subjects are covered that all relate to Belgium.

This geography curriculum is written as a non-biased, non-religious study. This gives families the flexibility to view it through the lens of their own religious worldviews as they see fit. Religions and religious beliefs of people in the country may be discussed.

Many of the activities follow a Charlotte Mason approach. These activities include: living stories, copywork, map drawing, art study, and composer study.

Whether you read about Belgium in the news or meet someone from the country, my hope is that this study provides a cultural immersion for your students that they will always remember.
