Discover Mongolia: A Book A Day (2 week study)

$8.00

“Land of the Horses” and “Land of the Blue Sky.” Wow, what an image that evokes! From the nomadic lifestyle on the vast steppe to the singing sand dunes of the Gobi Desert, the beautiful country of Mongolia comes to life through 13 living stories.

This fascinating 10-day geography study provides an overview of the various and unique ecosystems in Mongolia and 4 animal species that call it home, (including one cryptid!) You can try two simple, hands-on projects related to the ger, their nomadic dwelling.

Books and music will bring unique festivals and traditions to life. This study provides a brief history from Genghis Khan to the present, including the strong role of women in society. To complete the cultural immersion, make a Mongolian tea and Mongolian-inspired dessert.

Also included are:

  • Language Arts activities
  • Science Notebooking papers
  • Map and Flag Drawing
  • Art Study
  • Timeline Cards
  • Passport Book with special insert
  • Chapter Book suggestions

A table of contents organizes this study into the daily rhythm of reading a picture book, watching a video (or two), and completing an activity. There are also daily short paragraphs of background information to provide deeper understanding of the picture book.

This 34-page cultural unit study is perfect for but not limited to ages 5-11. Yes, you can use this with multiple age groups at once! I started studying countries this way with four children ranging from ages 3 to 9, and now my oldest ones are almost 11. There are four chapter books recommended for different ages, ranging from 6 to 17, that can be used as read alouds or for independent reading. With every study, my kids ask for more books, videos and activities!

You will receive two digital PDF downloads. This is not a physical product. The two files consist of: “Discover Mongolia: A Book A Day” and a special passport booklet.

Learn about the geography of different countries through literature. Written in an open-and-go format, this study uses multiple living picture books to learn about Mongolia. Many of the books are written by own voices or people with strong ties to the country.

The books and activities are interdisciplinary, covering multiple subjects during the course of the study. In a manner similar to unit studies, different subjects are covered that all relate to Mongolia.

This geography curriculum is written as a non-biased, non-religious study. This gives families the flexibility to view it through the lens of their own religious worldviews as they see fit. Religions and religious beliefs of people in the country are discussed.

Many of the activities follow a Charlotte Mason approach. These activities include: living stories, copywork, map drawing and science notebooking.

Whether you are traveling to Mongolia, know someone from the country, or are simply an adventurous explorer, my hope is that this study provides a cultural immersion for your students that they will always remember.
