Travel around America through Christmas stories! This study contains 54 lessons for you to pick and choose from and can last you for 2 to 3 Christmas seasons.
All the major regions of the United States are covered, and many of the states have their own featured book. You’ll read stories about Native American communities, Latin American traditions, and even some from under the sea.
Pioneer stories, Historical happenings, Christmas during the Great Depression and the Civil War, and even a Tall Tale: this study has it all!
You won’t get lost in the 68 pages: the study is organized by the 5 major regions of the United States and includes maps throughout. Have multiple kids? Use the compiled “Ornament Craft” pages at the end of the unit to easily print multiple and save paper!
Pick and choose from a total of 74 books; some lessons have multiple books to choose from. I’ve paired the books with interesting facts, links to articles and short videos for deeper dives, and a simple ornament craft.
Wow your friends with the fun Christmas trivia you’ll learn!
You’ll be able to answer such questions as:
- How does Santa arrive in Hawaii?
- Which state creates a Christmas tree out of tumbleweed?
- Where do the Gullah Geechee people live?
- What are the Christmas Posadas and Pastores?
- Who is Santa’s Mexican cousin?
- What is the difference between the National Christmas Tree and the Nation’s Christmas Tree?
- What is the Jonkankus?
- Where can you visit over 200 handcrafted, life-sized Nutcrackers at Christmas?
- What is Old Christmas and where is it still celebrated?
Let’s be honest. There is a lot going on during the holiday season. This study is a buffet offering, not a checklist.
It is flexible to fit your needs:
- You can watch the book read-alouds on youtube.
- You can skip the books in favor of just reading the short blurb and articles.
- You can choose to only watch the short, accompanying videos.
- You can just do the easy crafts.
If gathering craft supplies is not for you, I’ve created a simple, streamlined craft to go with each lesson: A collection of handmade paper ornaments that you can customize according to the needs of the children in your home. All you need is the printout, a glue stick, hole punch, and string.
It is my prayer that this unit brings light and joy to your holiday season.
