We read bits and pieces from these books as we worked through our study on Ancient Egypt. These were appropriate for my 7 and 8-year olds and complicated enough for my 11-year olds twins.

Ancient Egypt Story Books
Ms. Frizzle’s Adventures: Ancient Egypt
In typical Magic Schoolbus style, Ms. Frizzle takes a tour group time traveling to ancient Egyptian times. I like how the book focused on the ancient timeline but also showed a little bit of modern-day Egypt at the same time.
The Star-Bearer
This creation myth from ancient Egypt introduces you to Atum, Geb, Nut, and Thoth.
Activity Books
Make It Work! Ancient Egypt
Throughout this book, you’ll find photographs of dioramas of the landscape and homes of Egypt in ancient times. Also included are photographs featuring the many projects and activities that you can make with your child. Some of them are a bit complicated but we did a few that the kids were interested in.
Draw and Write Through History
We are using Volume 1: Creation through Jonah. This book goes through history according to the Bible. It provides dates according to a Young Earth Theory. Dinosaurs are shown coexisting with humans, all created on Day 6. The book also provides a cursive passage for students to use as copywork.
The drawings that coincide with ancient Egypt are: a pyramid, a sarcophagus, the sphinx, Joseph, and Moses.
Longer books
Egyptian Mythology
This is a colorful book of Egyptian myths. In between stories, there are full page highlights on the Egyptian gods and goddesses.
1000 Facts About Ancient Egypt
Full of colorful photographs and snippets of information, I thought my kids would be sure to like this book. There were several pictures of mummies throughout, which made mine hesitant to flip through it.
We are the Ancient Egyptians
I picked this up from BookOutlet.com last year. The book is organized by various occupations of people in ancient times. Each has a name and 2-page story to tell with fun illustrations.
Egyptology
This cover of this book immediately draws you in: shimmery gold with a big red gem, how tantalizing! The book is written as an archaeologist’s journal of the search for a Pharaoh’s tomb. Throughout are envelopes to open and flaps to investigate. I found the hands-on, investigative nature of this book extremely clever and interesting. My kids were not so quite as entranced in the story but the sketches were detailed and beautiful.
In the middle is a game board for the ancient game of Senet, complete with game pieces and directions. I’m relieved that I don’t have to purchase a separate game or cobble my own game board together! The book opens so that it lays flat.
