You don’t buy 3 copies of the same book. If you have 3 books that all qualify for the 3-for-2 deal, Amazon will auto-deduct the lowest cost out of the 3 books.
As long as all the books qualify for the 3-for-2 deal, you can buy as many books as you want. You are not limited to 3.

The Amazon shopping cart is smart! If I put three $20 books and three $5 books in the cart, it will automatically deduct one of the $20 books and one of the $5 books. (Instead of deducting the two cheapest $5 books.)
